๐ฏ Golden Syrup Dumplings (Slow Cooker Style)
These soft, fluffy dumplings simmered in rich golden syrup are pure comfort food. Perfect with cream, ice cream, or warm custard – a sweet Aussie classic you'll want to make again and again!
๐น Dumpling Ingredients:
◾ 2 cups self-raising flour, sifted
◾ 1 teaspoon baking powder
◾ 1/4 cup caster sugar
◾ ~80 g cold butter, cubed
◾ 200 ml pouring cream
◾ A splash of milk (only if needed to bring the dough together)
๐น Syrup Ingredients:
◾ 1/2 cup golden syrup
◾ 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
◾ 1/2 cup butter
◾ 1 teaspoon cinnamon
◾ 2 cups water
๐ Tip: Don’t start heating the syrup mixture until the dumplings are ready to go.
๐น Method:
✅ Make the Dumpling Dough:
1. Sift the flour and baking powder into a clean mixing bowl.
2. Stir in the caster sugar.
3. Rub in the cold cubed butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
4. Make a well in the center, then pour in the cream.
5. Using a flat-bladed knife, gently mix until just combined.
6. If the dough feels too dry, add a small splash of milk until it comes together — soft but not sticky.
7. Lightly shape the dough into small balls (about walnut size).
✅ Assemble in the Slow Cooker:
1. Turn your slow cooker to low.
2. Place the dumpling balls inside in a single layer (avoid stacking).
✅ Make the Syrup:
1. In a saucepan, combine golden syrup, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, and water.
2. Heat gently and bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar is dissolved and butter melted.
3. Carefully pour the hot syrup over the dumplings in the slow cooker.
✅ Cooking Time:
Cover the slow cooker with a tea towel under the lid (to catch condensation).
Cook on LOW for 3 hours, then switch to Keep Warm until ready to serve.
๐น Serving Suggestions:
Serve your golden syrup dumplings warm with:
✅ A drizzle of cream
✅ A scoop of vanilla ice cream
✅ Or a generous pour of custard ๐
